Did you know the average rural household uses up to 6 tons of firewood per year?

2024-06-22 13:56

As a result, firewood consumption for cooking is one of the major drivers of deforestation in Zimbabwe, contributing to the loss of an estimated 200,000Ha of woodland each year.

Not only is the collection of firewood very time consuming and very hard physical work for women and children, but cooking on open fires has led to a high prevalence of respiratory issues.

SSM’s partner is playing a leading role in tackling these challenges through the distribution of fuel-efficient cook stoves to rural households in Zimbabwe. These cook stoves require 70% less firewood than traditional 3 stone fires as they are designed to burn efficiently and use fallen deadwood from trees instead of chopping whole trees down.

In addition to the significant reduction in carbon emissions from burning less fuel, other important co-benefits are the reduction in the rate of deforestation and an improvement in the lives of local women and children who can spend less time collecting firewood.

Our goal is to sell more millions of cook stoves by the end of 2025.

As SSM, we are committed to supporting all the Ngos, Non-profit organizations, foundations, governments of the whole Africa to address the impact of climate change on our earth!
